There are some prawns cooking in the oven and I am craving a dressing. Nothing of the sort qualifies in my fridge so I hop on the web and find a recipe for Blue Cheese Dressing. Now, let me share with you, I love cheese, all cheese, and I am quite fond of blue cheese. It’s very strong, not the most pleasant smelling so it may not be up everyone’s food alley. If you like the taste, or as I discovered, even if you can only tolerate a little, this dressing works great on a simple green salad. Mix it up with lettuce, rocket or even baby spinach.
Original recipe from the Thermomix Recipe Community here. The original recipe called for 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce. I put in 1 tsp due to my enjoyment of using my measuring spoons. I did investigate into the terms and I discovered some interesting definitions.
These are actual baking terms. From what I could see a dash is about 1/8 teaspoon. If your a bona fide baker, you may have a 1/8 teaspoon handy, if you’re like me, you may have never seen one before.
Now the next term I came across was a pinch. The technical term for the amount of dry ingredient you can pinch between your thumb and forefinger. Not all fingers were created equal so there is a 1/16 teaspoon measure for the occasion.
My favourite term of the three would have to be smidgen. Anywhere where smidgen can be used as an official term is good by me. It’s tiny, about 1/32 teaspoon. Would my taste buds even discern this ingredient? If anything, using a measure like this would make me feel fancy!
And now you know… although further Googling led me to see there is much debate as the exact amount of these terms, so I’d say have fun with it, and you may gain a new set of baking spoons in the process.
Meanwhile, on to the recipe. You really do need to be a fan of blue cheese to like this one, though having said that my hubby did appreciate in small doses on his salad.
