Let’s do something new

“I tried to be normal once. Worst 2 minutes of my life.” This quote appeals to me, and as a budding stand up comedian, I wish I’d said it first. So I did the next best thing, I appropriated it and made it my own (Super Jen points to image on the left). Some credit the quote to “Unknown”, and others to Ziad K. Abdelnour. Either way,  after looking at the photo on Wikipedia I had a chuckle and I found out bad hair days don’t discriminate. Now back to the topic of stand up comedy. People often say that I’m funny. I like being […]

Corned Turtle Omelette? Nope. Community Treatment Orders.

What is a CTO? The Mental Health Review Tribunal states: A Community Treatment Order  is a legal order made by the Mental Health Review Tribunal or by a Magistrate. It sets out the terms under which a person must accept medication and therapy, counselling, management, rehabilitation and other services while living in the community. It is implemented by a mental health facility that has developed an appropriate treatment plan for the individual person. A Community Treatment Order authorises compulsory care for a person living in the community. Leading Our Recovery - PeerZone

Leading our Recovery… PeerZone

Last week I attended a four day training to facilitate PeerZone workshops. PeerZone is a series of three hour peer led workshops in mental health and addiction where people explore recovery and whole of life wellbeing. For a visual sense of PeerZone, check out the amazing video – http://www.peerzone.info/peerzone-video. It was a small group, myself and four others plus Sara our lovely facilitator, whose colourful clothes are something will always bring a smile to my face. The workshops were full of interaction and opportunities for discussion. One of the foundation workshops was titled: Leading our Recovery. Recovery is a word […]

Tumbling Along…

I start this post with a question that has crossed my mind a couple, okay it may have been more than a couple, of times these past few weeks. WHY? What is the purpose of dedicating time to a project? For me, it’s been a about balancing my desire to be constructive and produce things that are useful and perhaps even inspiring, and my desire just to do what I want to do. Fortunately, this balancing act hasn’t been too difficult as what I want to do relates quite closely with, hopefully, things others may find useful. I’ve been at […]

Mental Health Training

Tomorrow I’ll be attending a 3 day course (Remind) over the period of the next 3 Fridays at the Schizophrenia Fellowship. As it says on the website “There’s nothing more powerful than hearing about mental illness experiences from those who have lived it” As someone who has been in hospital a few times (interesting times – which I will be speaking about in my book), I believe I am qualified to speak about my experiences. I do hope in the future that I will have plenty of opportunities to speak publicly about my experience. I choose to see things in a positive […]
