Tomorrow I’ll be attending a 3 day course (Remind) over the period of the next 3 Fridays at the Schizophrenia Fellowship. As it says on the website “There’s nothing more powerful than hearing about mental illness experiences from those who have lived it” As someone who has been in hospital a few times (interesting times – which I will be speaking about in my book), I believe I am qualified to speak about my experiences. I do hope in the future that I will have plenty of opportunities to speak publicly about my experience. I choose to see things in a positive […]
Inspired by my friend who is on a weight loss challenge, I walked the Bay Run last night, for this reason I usually call it the Bay Walk. It’s a good 7km walk around Canada Bay, Sydney. During the walk we got talking about food (nothing unusual there). Another Breakfast Regime This is what she told me, 50g of muesli with 100ml of milk. When looking at the back of the packet with all the numbers, ensure that the sugar content is no more than a 1/3 of the total carbohydrate content – finally some of what I learnt in high […]
Yes, it’s been a while. This is how it happens, you get enthusiastic about a project and then somewhere along the way that enthusiasm dissipates and you’re left with random specks of inspiration. So it’s with these specks I write this post. The Wayside Chapel and St Vincent’s Hospital have come on board to support the Deck of Dreams (or could be affectionately known as DOD). I still see DOD as in it’s infancy and at this stage it still requires plenty of time and energy to grow. There will be a “grand opening” for DOD at St Vincent’s Hospital […]
It’s a month away and I am eagerly anticipating the official opening of the DOD project. I believe that a launch usually indicates the beginning of a project, which is a good thing because this project is not quite finished. So here I am writing to extend the invitation to you to attend the Opening on 16th May (10:30am – 12:30pm at The OBrien Centre cnr Victoria and Burton St Darlinghurst, NSW) . Not quite as dramatic as a rocket launch but you get the idea. Look forward to seeing you there (Thanks to Douglas Holmes, you can RSVP online at […]
According to the ABS in 2001, 14,200 were “sleeping rough” in Australia… it’s Homeless Persons Week from 6th August to 12th August. Tomorrow, Friday, we’ll be running a Deck of Dreams workshop at The Wayside Chapel from 2pm – 4pm. This will be my second workshop at Wayside.
I start this post with a question that has crossed my mind a couple, okay it may have been more than a couple, of times these past few weeks. WHY? What is the purpose of dedicating time to a project? For me, it’s been a about balancing my desire to be constructive and produce things that are useful and perhaps even inspiring, and my desire just to do what I want to do. Fortunately, this balancing act hasn’t been too difficult as what I want to do relates quite closely with, hopefully, things others may find useful. I’ve been at […]
