Invitation to Deck Of Dreams Opening

April 16th, 2012 | Posted by Jen Lee in Updates - (0 Comments)

It’s a month away and I am eagerly anticipating the official opening of the DOD project. I believe that a launch usually indicates the beginning of a project, which is a good thing because this project is not quite finished. So here I am writing to extend the invitation to you to attend the Opening on 16th May (10:30am — 12:30pm at The OBrien Centre cnr Victoria and Burton St  Darlinghurst, NSW) .

Not quite as dramatic as a rocket launch but you get the idea. Look forward to seeing you there (Thanks to Douglas Holmes, you can RSVP online at Eventbrite)

A painting created for The Wayside Chapel opening on Saturday 19th May 2012

Yes, it’s been a while. This is how it happens, you get enthusiastic about a project and then somewhere along the way that enthusiasm dissipates and you’re left with random specks of inspiration. So it’s with these specks I write this post.

The Wayside Chapel and St Vincent’s Hospital have come on board to support the Deck of Dreams (or could be affectionately known as DOD). I still see DOD as in it’s infancy and at this stage it still requires plenty of time and energy to grow. There will be a “grand opening” for DOD at St Vincent’s Hospital on Wednesday 16th May, 2012. There will be the opportunity to participate in a DOD workshop after the opening.

Once I gather the specks of inspiration to a ball there shall be more happening in DOD world. As for now, I leave you will a painting I created for The Wayside Chapel opening, it’s called Connected World — or — black stick men all stuck together on a round green blob (Oh and it will be on sale, at a price I have yet to determine)

Also I have received another beautiful entry into DOD from Peter D. Thank you, and it can be found in the gallery. And also thank you to a special someone who has encouraged me to post something, this is a step in the right direction.

Copic Ciao Markers… So Delightful

January 23rd, 2012 | Posted by Jen Lee in Creative - (0 Comments)

Copic MarkersI love colours! COPIC is a brand of marker from Japan (of course) with oodles of colours, from brights to pastels. I may have bitten off more than I can chew when I ordered my 72 COPIC Ciao Marker set on the weekend via ebay… they will be coming in from the UK, saving me about $100! I will be like a child on Christmas day when the package arrives. In the mean time, to inspire me and to justify my markerific purchase, I looked for examples of artists using COPIC markers — here are a handful [ anatoliba | IsisMasshiro2 | Velvet-Loz | phoenix-karenee ]

I also found this adorable mini COPIC marker by MrsCreosote (who also has some amazing miniature artworks of food). Thanks to KiwiChameleon for the COPIC marker image in this post. So hopefully soon will begin a rampage of artistic outpouring and creativity.

As defined by the online dictionary: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used etc.

What seems to be a simple thing, can lead to a life of searching for one’s ultimate purpose. The reason for which you exist. That is quite a statement, and definitely infers you are here for more than just  to take up air and a space on this planet, Earth in case it’s become unrecognisable to you in it’s chaos. Through my, relatively short — in comparison to that of a 219 year old turtle — life, I’ve pondered upon my purpose only a handful of times. I don’t think I even thought about such a thing until a couple of years ago. Back then, life was simply complicated in it’s simplicity. A repetitive motion of sleep, eat, move, talk, study/work, sleep etc. Through my experiences, I’ve awoken a few times to knowing there is a greater purpose for me, beyond this cycle… only to lose it again in the next wave of self pity or unworthiness. When does it stop? It stops when you are dead. So as long as I am living, I will be going through some cycle and it’s up to me to make it interesting.

Deck of Dreams is one of my dreams. I’ve nursed it from when it was just a flippant notion on the bottom of a mountain, to now, an actual seed which has the potential to grow into something. What is my dream? How do our dreams relate to our purpose and are they one of the same? One of my greatest dreams is to guide people to their dreams. And once that dream is found, to ensure that all the supports are there to make it happen. Then once that is done and dusted, to find another dream. Now that is a cycle I find more than interesting.
